Linen, wool, oiled oak, jute: the full care sheet

How to wash a washed linen cushion, refresh oiled oak, brush a jute rug, and how many years you can expect before the first patina. No jargon.
Natural materials last decades if you treat them right and weeks if you don't. Here is the no-jargon care sheet for the four materials you'll see most often in our catalogue: washed linen, recycled wool, oiled oak and jute.
Washed linen (cushions, throws)
Machine wash at 30°C with a gentle detergent, no fabric softener. Tumble dry low for 5 minutes to soften, then air dry flat. Linen gets softer with every wash — the slightly stiff feel out of the bag disappears around wash 3.
Recycled wool (blankets, rugs)
Spot clean with cold water and a mild soap. For larger stains, a professional wool-safe dry cleaner is the safe bet. Air the throw outside once a season — wool naturally releases odours and refreshes itself.
Oiled oak (side tables, trays)
Wipe with a damp cloth, never soak. Once a year, rub a thin layer of furniture oil along the grain with a lint-free cloth, let it absorb 20 minutes, buff off the excess. Oak that's been re-oiled keeps a warm tone instead of greying out.
Jute (rugs, baskets)
Vacuum without the rotating brush — a soft brush head is enough. Spot clean with a barely damp cloth and let dry fully before walking on it. Jute is sensitive to standing water, so don't use it under plants without a saucer.
- Patina is not damage. Oak darkens, linen softens, wool pills lightly — that's how they're meant to age.
- Avoid direct sun for textile pieces. UV fades natural dyes in months.
- Rotate cushions and rugs every 3 months for even wear.
